The Higher School of Tourism and Hotel Industry in Gdansk was
established in 1996 by the Minister of Education (no.
DSW-3-0145/TBN/96, dated January 5, 1996). The school was
registered by the Ministry of Education (MEN) on June 24, 1996 under
the registration number 88.
On August 20 2001, by virtue of the decision of the Minister of
National Education (no. DSW-2-0145-424/ TBM/2001), the school obtained
a license for running Masters programs in the field of tourism and
recreation.
The resolution No. 412/2004 of the State Accreditation
Committee Presidium of the 17 July 2004 on the issue of evaluating the
quality of teaching for Bachelor's and Master's degree on the programme
of "tourism and recreation" run on the Faculty of Tourism, Trade and
Services in the Higher School of Tourism and Hotel Industry in Gdansk.
On the basis of the Art. 38 (1) of the Higher Education Act of 12
September, 1990 (Official Journal No. 65, 385 as amended) the State
Accreditation Committee Presidium, after analyzing the report of the
evaluating panel, comments of HSTHI and the opinion of the Section for
Degree Programmes in Physical Education, worked the positive rate. The
Committee is a state body that adopts resolutions regarding
establishment of institutions of higher education, grants rights to
establish degree programmes, evaluates the quality of teaching for a
specified degree programme, as well as meets the legal requirements for
higher - degree programmes.
The founder of the Higher School of Tourism and Hotel Industry is
'Uczelnia' Ltd. The school is a precursory non-state owned higher
education institution in Northern Poland, preparing personnel for
tourism and self-governmental economy as well as trade and services.
